The Boston Bruins are changing the format of Mini 1x1 to be 3x3 for this upcoming season. Rhode Island will host a competition on September 26 from 6:15 PM – 9:15PM at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket to determine our state's representatives. The new format will consist of Squirt, PeeWee, Girls U10, and Girls U12. Each Rhode Island program may send one team (three skaters and a goalie) for each age level.

The competition format will be decided once we know the number of teams entered at each age level. Interested programs need to commitment by Monday September 14th. At this point, the names of each player is not required, just the commitment of participation and at what age level.

Rhode Island will be able to send two teams at each age group so both finalists in our competition will move on.

Another change this year is that eligibility is based on 2015-2016 season ages. In the past, eligibility was determined by ages levels from the prior season.

Depending on the number of teams entered, the competition to determine our Rhode Island representatives will closely follow the Bruins tournament format which is as follows:

Game Rules:
• 3 v 3 plus goalies, cross-ice

• 3 minute run time games
• Recommend using hard divider boards, full size nets, three cross ice games at a time to maximize ice time
• Each team may have one ‘team parent’ to assist keeping them organized and following ice schedule
• All playing rules per USA Hockey, no icing or off sides
• Overtime: Sudden death shootout. Must rotate through three shooters.
• Penalty called by referee results in penalty shot (stop time) and no time served
       - Puck placed at center with shooter, remaining players line up

behind non attacking zone goalie, on whistle game resumes,
         puck is live
• Face-offs: A center ice face off will take place only at the start of the game. All other stoppages continued by referee tossing puck into neutral area
• Frozen Pucks and Goals – Goalies are to make save and direct puck to a teammate. Attacking team must retreat to half ice. After goals same procedure.
• Teams consist of 4 total players (1 goalie and 3 players) if a player is injured during game, time will stop, team must continue to play with or without injured player
